Orwell River Cruises Limited was specifically formed in 2001 to bring back the pleasure of river cruising to the River Orwell after an absence of such facilities for several decades.
A Suffolk businessman, with strong links with the maritime scene, is the driving force behind the family owned Orwell River Cruises. It had long been an ambition to provide a traditional, professionally run, river cruise service locally, so that more people could experience the wonders of the River Orwell and Stour estuary, including the very impressive Port of Felixstowe. The River Orwell is one of the most scenic and historic rivers in the country, and has been officially voted by the RYA as the second most beautiful river in England.
Using its purpose built vessel, ~Orwell Lady~, the company runs regular, scheduled cruises for up to 118 passengers per trip, leaving from Orwell Quay in Ipswich Wet Dock, along the River Orwell and into Harwich Harbour. There are three different daytime public cruises down the river (to the Orwell Bridge and back, Pin Mill and back or Harwich Harbour and back), Afternoon Tea cruises and,Sunday Buffet Lunch cruises to either Harwich Harbour or Pin Mill and various themed evening cruises.
She is also available for private hire and is described by company bosses as ~ideal~ for corporate use and parties. If you have a special birthday, anniversary or special occasion then a cruise down the river on Orwell Lady, together with food and music is a wonderful way to celebrate it with a difference.
The river cruise vessel ‘Orwell Lady’ is suitable for day trips, family parties, music and buffets. ‘Orwell Lady’ has an open seated top viewing deck and fully enclosed lower saloon, with panoramic viewing windows and toilet facilities.More

Although Orwell Lady has a seating capacity of 118, it is recommended for private charter that the numbers of passengers are limited to around 65+ so that, in the event of inclement weather, the hirer and guests can be comfortably accommodated under cover in the main saloon and to allow greater freedom to to move from one deck to another. For evening charters it is mandatory the numbers must be limited to 65.More
